Titus 3 Verse 3 describes the natural state of every single person.. " For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another." We all begin in a state of "total depravity".. as Romans 3 reminds us " There is none righteous, not even one." ( v10) Understanding and acknowledging this truth about ourselves is necessary.. because until we do, we do not understand the need to be saved and the extent of the salvation that God has granted us in Christ Jesus.
Verse 4-7"But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that being justified by His grace we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."
When we know this Truth, and receive the salvation that Jesus alone provides for all who will believe in Him ... our lives become radically changed.. we are new creations.. "careful to engage in good deeds.. " Living fruitful lives to the glory of our Savior as we walk according to His Spirit who dwells in us.
Father, may Your Spirit enlighten our understanding of Your Word and change our lives to be more like Jesus our Savior.. May we live in obedience.. ready for every good deed.. in kindness, gentleness, and genuine love. Cleanse us from all unrighteousness and renew us by Your glory.. day by day. In Christ's name we ask this. Amen.
