II Thessalonians 2 Paul is teaching this church more about the  coming of the Lord Jesus.  They were worried that they had missed it! But, Paul assures them that there was more that would happen before the final day of judgement.

What they ( and we)   really should focus on is being ready for that day..  Since the "lawless one" would come to deceive.. we must be sure to know the truth.  The truth is what keeps men from perishing.. from being deceived and deluded by the lies. And the lies will be very persuasive.. coming with "signs and wonders".  We need to be aware of this.. and know that many  perish because "they refused to love the truth and so be saved."

Paul was thankful that the church loved the Lord and were loved by the Lord.  He was thankful that they had been chosen "from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth." (v13)

"It was for this He called you through our gospel the you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ."  When the good news.. the message that Paul brought to them was received by these men and women.. they were called into the holiness and glory of Jesus Christ. They were brought into the Truth.  This is what Paul exhorts them to  hold on to firmly!

"Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word."

Father in heaven, we have heard the Gospel.. the Good News about Jesus.. and have received it with joy. We love the Truth and desire to stand firm.. We pray for Your eternal comfort.. for ourselves and for the many who suffer great persecution because of their faith in Jesus.  Fill them and us with Your good hope. Strengthen us and them in all we do and all we say.. for the glory of Your Great Name.  Thank You for loving us and giving us such a great salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ who died for us that we might be called and chosen!  Hallelujah!  Thank You . Amen.
