1 Thessalonians 5   We are reminded here that the "day of the Lord"  is coming..."like a thief in the night."  It will be unexpected by the world.. but not by those who follow Jesus.  

We are "sons of light and sons of day"..  We are not in the dark!  We are aware.. alert.. sober; self-controlled and watchful.  We have faith and love as our "breastplate" and the hope of salvation as our "helmet".  We are destined for salvation in that day when God pours out His wrath upon sin.  Our Lord Jesus Christ "who died for us" did so that we might be with Him forever!  Hallelujah!

So let us be encouraged! Let us build up one another.. as Paul teaches here. 

Let us encourage our pastors and teachers by appreciating the things they do. 

Let us live in peace with each other.. 

Let us "admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak.. and be patient with all men."  (v14)

Let us never repay evil with evil, but "always seek after that which is good for one another and for all men." (v15)

Let us "Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; [and] in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for [us] in Christ Jesus." (v16-18)

May we not "quench the Spirit"  or despise prophecy; but  let us "examine everything carefully" and "hold fast to that which is good". 

"Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ"! ( v23)

"Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass." ! (v24)
