Hebrews 8  "Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the the throne of the Majesty in the heavens... " 

Jesus, the perfect and permanent High Priest, appointed by the Father, sits at the right hand of God.
He dwells in the "true tabernacle"....  The heavenly realm from which the design of the earthly tabernacle was patterned.

"But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises. " (v6)

The rest of this chapter includes much of Jeremiah 31.  This prophecy was recorded as Nebuchadnezzar's army besieged the gates of Jerusalem.  Israel is about to be taken into captivity.
God's judgement has come upon them because of their great sins -  fueled by their rebellion against Him, their worship of idols, and their absolute failure to keep the covenant of the Law.  Here, the Lord reveals to Jeremiah, that He is not done with Israel.. for "days are coming"..  and a  new covenant is promised!

This new covenant has been established.  Jesus said, " This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood." ( Luke 22:20)   Matthew recorded it this way, " .. this is My blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins " ( 26:28)

This new covenant, established by the blood of Jesus, is a solemn promise from God:

"For this is the covenant that I will make 

with the house of Israel

After those days, says the Lord;

I will put My Laws into their minds, 

And I will write them upon their hearts. 

And I will be their God, 

And they shall be My people.

And they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen, 

and everyone his brother, 

saying, 'Know the Lord'

For all shall know Me

From the least to the greatest of them. 

For I will be merciful to their iniquities, 

and I will remember their sins no more." 

Father in heaven, You are the Majesty on High,  the Lord of hosts.. the One who has given us "the sun for light by day, and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night." ( Jer. 31:35)

You have promised this better covenant, ministered by the Lord Jesus, our perfect and permanent High Priest.  Your Laws are written on our hearts and minds.  We are Your people and You are our God.  We need no other mediator than the Lord Jesus Christ, who has called us to follow Him.  It is in His love and grace that we boldly enter the throne room of heaven to receive help in times of need.  We acknowledge freely that we need You every hour of every day.  You are Life and we find it in You.  Thank You for every good and perfect gift that is ours in Jesus, through whom and for who all things are made.  We are Yours.. thank You !
