Exodus 3  Moses meets God.  Verses 1-9 provide a glimpse into Moses' meeting with God .  Note the progression:
v2 - the angel of the Lord appeared ( in the burning bush)
    - Moses looked
v3- Moses turned aside to see
v4- The Lord saw Moses turn aside to look.
    - The Lord called to Moses, by name
   - Moses answered.

Yes, the burning bush that was not consumed was pretty amazing to see. But, the encounter with God is available to any who will turn aside to see!  God has revealed Himself to mankind.  All we need to do is turn away from the world and look....When we stop and turn our eyes towards God, He sees us and will call us to Himself.  He knows our names.  He knows exactly what wilderness we are running around in.  Listen carefully,  turn off the tv and the internet, quiet your thoughts,  and answer Him like Moses did, " Here I am."

One of the first things that God establishes with Moses in this new relationship is His holiness.  v5  "Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground."   God wants Moses to know Him as He is.   It is vitally important that he (and we) know(s) the utter holiness and set apartness of God.   We want to come to God as our friend or our Daddy, as our Savior and Shepherd... which are all wonderful privileges. .. but we must first of all know Him as the Holy One.  "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding " ( Proverbs 9:10)
Before we can truly know God, we must recognize and acknowledge  His holiness.  Tozer writes:

" We know nothing like the divine holiness.  It stands apart, unique, unapproachable, incomprehensible and unattainable. The natural man is blind to it.  He may fear God's power and admire His wisdom, but His holiness he cannot even imagine. "  And also, " Holy is the way God is. To be holy He does not conform to a standard.  He is that standard. He is absolutely holy with an infinite, incomprehensible fullness of purity that is incapable of being other than it is. Because He is holy, all His attributes are holy; that is, whatever we think of as belonging to God must be thought of as holy."
( The Knowledge of the Holy by A. W. Tozer)

Father in Heaven,  Holy God,  Maker of heaven and earth,  we remove the sandals from our feet, to stand on the holy ground before You.  We have turned aside to see You.  We have heard You call our names.  We say to You now, "Here I am."  Reveal to our blind eyes the wonder of Your holiness, Lord.  May we know, as much as it is possible to know, the wonder and greatness of Who You are.
Forgive us for coming to You without thinking or recognizing Who it is that we are praying to.  O Lord, You are incomprehensible and unattainable  in Your holiness,  yet You have provided a way for us to enter into Your unapproachable Presence through Jesus Christ our Savior.  Amazing grace! Restore in us awe and fear, lest we forget again just how HOLY You are.   Thank You for having mercy on us.  Thank You for salvation through Christ Jesus our Lord.  Fill us with Your Spirit today.
Amen
