I John 2: 12-14 John reassures his readers, those that he loves... that he is writing these things for them.. to encourage and strengthen them in faith. He addresses them in the most intimate of terms: "little children.. fathers.. young men.." His purpose is so that they "know that ...[they] know Him".
" I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name's sake." May this truth sink in and resound in our souls once again! Hallelujah!
"I am writing to you fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning." The Holy One, the God of heaven and earth, our Creator... Infinite, Self-existent, Self-sufficient, Eternal, Omnipotent, and Transcendent God; Who is completely beyond us.. has made Himself known to us. And because of this, we can also say.. we know Him. Oh, what grace!
"I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one... because you know the Father." That is an encouraging and empowering statement, isn't it? Not, you will.. but "you have" overcome the evil one...
" I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been with you from the beginning... I have written to you, young men, because you are strong and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one." Just in case they/we didn't catch it the first time, John repeats himself..
God is with us. He is the same God who created us, who has revealed Himself to us.. who loves us.. and who has provided salvation through His only Begotten Son! In fellowship with Him, we overcome! In knowing Him, we walk in love. In Him, the evil one is defeated! Hallelujah!
