Genesis 1:1-5  There is such beauty in the creation story.. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."   There is a man.. a theologian, I guess.. ( I've seen the video on facebook) ..  who explains that this verse gives us something that no theory of evolution can explain.. It tells us that "In the beginning" = time; "the heavens" = space; and "the earth"= matter. Together.. time+space+matter.. all come from God in one Word.  We have a Mighty Creator.

The Presence of God moved over the surface of the deep of this "formless and empty" and dark planet.  Was there a calmness.. a sense of expectation as God hovered over His creation?  The Hebrew word "moved" has a surprising definition... according to Strong's lexicon it means to brood; to be relaxed; to flutter; move, shake.  He knew all that would come to pass on this planet.. He saw what His creation would become.. and how it would all end. Yet, He did it anyway.

V3  " Then God said, 'Let there be light', and there was light."   God did not need light, for He is Light.  The psalmist wrote " Even the darkness is not dark to Thee, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to Thee." ( Psalm 139:12)  God chose to separate the light from the darkness.. He called the light "good".  He named it "day"; He called the darkness "night".  He made a distinction between the two. Right from the beginning.

I looked up the word light in my Bible app search.. there is so much that God has to say about it.  Several verses that strike me come from Isaiah..  45;6-7 "That men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun that there is no one besides Me, I am the Lord, and there is no other, the One forming light and creating darkness, causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the Lord who does all these."   And Isaiah 60: 19 " No longer will you have the sun for light by day, nor for brightness will the moon give you light; But you will have the Lord for an everlasting light, and your God for your glory. "

It is not until the 4th day that God makes the sun and moon and stars.  His light is enough. It is more than enough. It is everlasting. He does not need it.. but He gave it for us.  By His Word.. by His Son through whom and for whom all of creation came into being.  Jesus, the Light of the World.

Father, Almighty Creator, The Lord of heaven and earth.  We bow before You in awe of Your greatness. I am without words.. except to praise You and worship You with a thankful heart.. for You sent the Light to me.. Oh hallelujah. What a Savior. Amen.
