James 5  Again, James addresses those who are rich.  Their lives have been interrupted by the fact that they have had to leave their homes because of persecution. Yet, they have held on to their faith.. in their possessions.  James admonishes them to see themselves in light of the Truth.  Riches will rot. Silver and gold will rust. Earthly treasures will burn up.

More than that.. their failure to treat their workers fairly is sinful. When they live luxuriously and treat "the righteous" terribly, God will hold them accountable for their actions.

Walking in wisdom.. they must humble themselves and do the things that please God.. faith in action.. in words and deeds.

Beginning in verse 7, James exhorts the believers to "be patient".  We are included in this exhortation. "You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand."

Be patient with one another - not complaining.. not judging... and not neglecting one another.  Tend to and pray for the sick.  Praise the Lord along side those who are rejoicing in Him.  Be honest with one another when we struggle and fall. Build up and encourage one another when our brothers or sisters struggle and fall.

In other words.. love.  Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.  And love your neighbor as yourself.  Speak the truth in love. Be kind and merciful, showing grace towards others. Forgive. And most of all... Pray.

Father in heaven, may Your love fill our hearts. Let the grace of Jesus Christ fill us with that love. Holy Spirit.. take control, and lead us in Truth. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
