Leviticus 14.. This chapter is titled "Law of cleansing a Leper".. in my Bible. It is a long, complicated procedure that would take 8 days in all to complete.. after.. a priest had examined a person who had leprosy... or a house that had mold or mildew.
The priest would act as the mediator.. meeting the leper outside the camp.. walking him through the requirements to be declared "cleansed".. and completing the sacrifices.. a burnt offering, a guilt offering, a grain offering, and an offering of oil.
The Lord did give an alternative for those who could not afford all of the necessary offerings.. but even then, they were a lot. They also had to shave off all of their hair.. even their eyebrows! They had to wash everything they wore.. and if it was a problem in a house.. they had to tear out the bad and restore it with new stone and plaster.. or in some cases... tear the house down completely.
Once again, knowing that Jesus fulfilled all of the Law, I think about Him and how He is our Mediator.. showing us the extent of our need to be cleansed from all unrighteousness.. from all our diseases.. from all our sin and guilt and shame. Jesus paid it ALL! Hallelujah !
I have heard of some comparisons between leprosy.. a disease of the skin.. and sin.. a disease of the soul. Like leprosy.. sin spreads.. it makes us "unclean".. and it is not able to heal itself. We cannot take away the "spot" that marks our lives when we sin.. but Jesus died so that He could take away every guilty stain by His own blood.
Father in heaven, again we rejoice in the Wonderful Savior who came to seek and save us.. to cleanse us from all our sins.. to proclaim us clean.. "whiter than snow".. We can not pay our debt and we cannot remove the stains of sin.. but Jesus has paid it all! Praise and thanksgiving to our God! How wonderful is the power of the cross.. where Jesus made a way for us to be whole.. Amen and amen!
