Leviticus 20 "Then the Lord spoke to Moses... "  Again, the Lord gives instructions to His people ...defining for them with great detail..  what would defile them.. "You are therefore to keep all My statutes and all My ordinances and do them, so that the land to which I am bringing you to live will not spew you out." They needed to live as people of a Holy God... "I am the Lord your God, who has separated you from the peoples."

Their actions, their customs, their relationships, and even the food that they were given to eat... everything was "separated".. the clean from the unclean... the holy from the profane.. so that they could be consecrated and holy.  "I am the Lord who sanctifies you." (v8)

The Lord gives severe judgement for the sins listed here.. especially for those who would offer their children to Molech.    Idolatry and immorality were the downfall of the nations that were living in Canaan.  These sins would also be the downfall of Israel in the years to come.. leading to captivity.  It is the downfall of many nations in our world today.. including our own.   The penalty is death for many of these sinful actions.  God is the Judge and He will "cut off" those who do not live according to His Word.

"Thus you are to be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy; and I have set you apart from the peoples to be Mine." (v26)

As followers of Jesus Christ we are made holy by His blood shed on the cross.  We have a Redeemer who washed us so that we can be set apart also.  He is still calling us to holy living.. our actions.. our customs.. our relationships.. and in some ways what we eat and drink..  as I Corinthians 10:31 says.. "So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

Father in heaven, You are the Lord, the One true and holy  God. We hallow Your Name and pray that You would forgive every sin and trespass so that we can be clean before You. Sanctify us through and through that we may be "preserved complete, without blame at the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. " (IThessalonians 5:23)  Amen
